Jay Abrahamse – Game Designer

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to make games. I just didn’t really know what went into them. I started out as an animator for a small company and stumbled into game design. At first, I didn’t really know much about designing a game but I hit the ground running and learned a lot very quickly.

What was your favorite part about creating Committed: Mystery at Shady Pines Premium Edition?

Creating the actual story and narrative was my favorite part. We tweaked the twists and turns quite a bit and came up with big reveals all over the place.

If you replay the game, after seeing the twists at the end, you’ll pick up on subtle hints in the dialogue and journal entries.

A map plays a big part of Committed: Mystery at Shady Pines Premium Edition. If you could visit anywhere on the real world map, where would it be?

Oh man, that’s a difficult question. I recently went to Hawaii with my girlfriend, which was an amazing place. Plus, Seattle can be a bit gray and full of rain. So anywhere sunny and tropical would be nice. Maybe Australia.

However, I’d love to visit many parts of Europe and Ireland as well.

Tell us about the other patients the player meets in Committed: Mystery at Shady Pines Premium Edition.

I can’t say much on this, or it will spoil the story! Just know that it’s attached to the main game and will give you a shock. I had a lot of fun writing the little story for this.

What tips and tricks do you have for WildTangent players who are playing Committed: Mystery at Shady Pines Premium Edition?

The journal and map give a lot of details. I would say that if you get stuck, just make sure you check them. I design and play a lot of hidden object games and I still find myself getting stuck quite a bit. I always fall back on the journal and map!
