Weekly Tangent – A Fascination With Snowflakes (Fantastic Photo Galleries)

Hello ‘Tangenters!

Wow! I read this article the other day and was blown away by how the photographer takes pictures of individual snowflakes. You can see every point and curve. Not only is it beautiful, it’s fascinating.

Microscopic snowflake

What a beauty!

So, naturally, I went hunting for online galleries of snowflake photos.

Here you go!

  • Alexey Kljatov is the photographer from the above article.
  • Don Komarechka has a wonderful collection of snowflake close-ups.
  • Kenneth Libbrecht from CalTech used a photomicroscope (say that 5 times fast) to capture incredible images of different categories of snowflakes.
  • Patricia Rasmussen takes some breathtaking photos with some unusual-looking snowflakes.

If you, like me, are curious about how snowflakes form – here’s the snowflake primer!

Snowflakes are amazing things, aren’t they?

Stay warm and safe this winter, players!

Tangentially,
Mari
