It’s that time of year. Pink and red cover everything.
People either love it or hate it.
And, that’s okay.
It seems that there’s enough cool history and cute, fluffy trivia to satisfy both parties.
Let’s get started!
According to history.com
, we send 150 million cards and gifts to each other. Isn’t that sweet?
There are actually 3 different saints who went by the name Valentine and we don’t actually know which one they named the holiday after. But, they were all martyred. (See? It’s not all warm and fuzzy.)
Valentine’s Day was not originally a Christian holiday. It seems that it was tacked on to (or took over for) the Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia. Today’s version is less bloody and more chocolate oriented than it used to be.
The oldest known valentine is from 1415!
The chocolate industry employs more than 40,000 people in the US.
Now you (and I!) know a little bit more about Valentine’s Day.
Even PB and J are feeling romantic!
If you are one to enjoy this holiday of love, then go keep those chocolate and greeting card employees in business!
If you aren’t a fan of Valentine’s Day, maybe consider taking it old school and celebrate the 14th as Lupercalia instead… perhaps without the animal sacrifices, though.
